Port Rexton

OK, now I understand why they call this place "The Rock". Absolutely amazing trails along shear cliff vistas with seastacks jutting up from the water. We took a fairly long hike along the Skerwink Trail yesterday to encounter rain and fog and some of the most incredible sights I've ever seen (even with the fog). Also discovered that the "rain jacket" that I brought would be much better suited as a sponge, at least the Lowepro camera bag I bought was the right choice. Digital stuff stayed dry as long as it was in the bag. I find it incredible that they would build a trail that if you don't watch where you put your foot, you end up 500 to 1000 feet down twisted in rocks - basically bird food. The great part is that they did it!!!

Unfortunately, I don't really have the time to finish writing about yesterday since we have to get to Squid Tickle in a hurry and the sun looks like it's coming out. Need to hike back along the Skerwink to take some clear shots as long as we can see.

I'm going to try and post a couple low-res photos to see how that works out.

Port Rexton - Trinity Bay - Fishers Loft

Good thing too since we can't see a darn thing. Boy does it get fogged in up here, although it should burn off this afternoon.
We got here yesterday around 3 before the moose's hit the roads and we hit the moose. We dropped off our gear and headed out to see a couple sights. Found out that fog is a local phenomenon - drove up about 10 miles and the sun was shining. Took a brief hike on a local trail to find it covered with moose tracks heading in both directions and fresh. Have to keep and eye fore and aft to not get run down by Bullwinkle. Came back to an amazing dinner of cod and fresh veggies from their garden. Beam is expensive up here but as long as they have it ;)
Bet you didn't know that this is where they filmed the movie "The Shipping News".

Eagle has Landed

Heading from St John's to Fisher's Loft in Port Rexton. The time difference in 90 minutes ahead of EST.  Fish was on the breakfast menu as well as toutons (fried bread) and molasses. Partridge berries can be added to pancakes too. We need to brush up on our metrics. St John's is expected to get 4 mm of rain today and it's 20degrees C. We have been warned several times to watch out for the moose when driving. We also expect to see the Northern Lights when the skies clear up.

Doug just got off the phone with his second cousin "Doug". We'll meet up with him when we return to St.John's to have some steaks on the BBQ and look at some snaps of family.
